“Rise of Skywalker” is the newest movie to join the popular Star Wars franchise by George Lucas. The movie was directed by J. J. Abrams and was released in theaters December 20th, 2019. So far, the movie has accumulated an estimated $1.046 billion from the box office alone. However, despite the revenue, there are many mixed opinions on the movie’s plot and relation to the Star Wars world.
“It felt rushed; it didn’t make a lot of sense sometimes,” says Jonathan Merrill, an 11th grader at Black River. Az Sepulveda, another 11th grader, says “It undermines the original trilogies by bringing back Palpatine.”
The reviews also didn’t do so well, with currently 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, 6.9/10 for IMDb, and 54% on Metacritic.
However, there are some good parts of the movie. Merrill and Sepulveda stated that the cinematography and star-ship dogfight towards the end were some of the best parts
“I wouldn’t recommend paying to see it, but if you can see it for free, go ahead,”says Sepulveda.
The official release date of “Rise of Skywalker” is currently to be announced for Disney+ and other streaming apps.
